They also just might have a superstar in the making. Flames' first round pick Sean Monahan of Brampton, Ontario scored the game winning goal from Sven Baertschi and Dennis Wideman with 2:43 left in the third period to break a 2-2 deadlock.
Monahan leads the Flames with four goals in five games and is second on the team with six points, only one point back of Jiri Hudler for the team lead. At this point, it seems highly unlikely that the Flames coaching staff would send Monahan back to the Ontario Hockey League this season. Monahan has been an instrumental member of the Ottawa 67's the last three years. Junior players can play nine games in the NHL before being sent down to junior again.
Now comes the real test for Monahan and the Flames. They will be going on the road for the next five games starting Wednesday in Anaheim.
