Flames collapse in third period in 6-3 loss to Avalanche Thursday

The Calgary Flames and Colorado Avalanche played an even forty minutes Thursday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

Then the Avalanche dominated the third period scoring. Centre Paul Stastny, son of Hockey Hall of Famer and Quebec Nordique legend Peter Stastny, scored twice in a span of 1:29 to break a 3-3 deadlock en route to a 6-3 Colorado victory.

Then P.A. Parenteau, who was Colorado's key offseason free agent from the New York Islanders, scored his second of the game with 1:48 left in the third period to give the Avalanche the three goal victory.

One of the most significant concerns from the Flames' perspective was Miikka Kiprusoff's statistical line. The Flames veteran goaltender only made 16 saves on 22 shots.

Meanwhile, Jiri Hudler, who was signed by the Flames in the offseason from Detroit, scored two goals and one assist for Calgary in a losing cause.

The Flames (1-3-1) next host the Chicago Blackhawks (6-0-1) on Saturday night. The Avalanche (3-4) meanwhile next host the Edmonton Oilers (4-2-1) on Saturday afternoon.
