According to the Calgary Flames website, the Calgary Flames have called up defenseman Chris Breen from their American Hockey League affiliate in Abbotsford on Sunday.

Breen, a native of Uxbridge, Ontario, has three assists in 20 regular season games with Abbotsford this season. At 24 years of age, Breen also has played five games for the Flames this season and got into a fight in Dallas with Lane MacDermid. Ironically, the Flames acquired MacDermid on November 22 for a sixth round draft pick.

To make room for Breen on their roster, the Flames sent veteran defenseman Shane O'Brien down to Abbotsford after he cleared waivers on Saturday. O'Brien had three assists for the Flames this season, but was known for his aggressive play where he had 58 penalty minutes.

Another player who was sent down to the AHL on Sunday was Olympic gold medalist Mikael Samuelsson. The Detroit Red Wing right winger, who won his gold medal with Sweden at the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Torino, has 346 career points in the NHL, but only three this season.
