Flames beat Stars in a shootout Friday

According to TSN, the Calgary Flames defeated the Dallas Stars 4-3 on Friday in a shootout.

Flames rookie center Corban Knight from Oliver, British Columbia scored the shootout winner for the Flames, who inched a little closer to the Dallas Stars for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Even though the Flames won the game, they only picked up one point on the Stars in the standings because they won in a shootout and are still 14 points back of Dallas for a playoff spot.

The Stars are looking for their first playoff berth since 2008 when they advanced all the way to the Western Conference Championship. That year Dallas eliminated the Anaheim Ducks and San Jose Sharks before losing to the eventual Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings in six games.

Michael Cammalleri led the Flames in scoring with two goals, including the game tying goal with 4:30 left in the third period from T.J. Brodie and Joe Colbourne. For Colbourne, he also had a multi-point game as he notched two assists.

The Flames will next play in Phoenix on Saturday night.
