Curtis Glencross led the Flames with two goals. Both goals came in the third period. The first came on the power play from Mike Cammalleri and Kris Russell with 1:56 left in the game, and then the second goal came directly off a takeaway and into an empty net.
Cammalleri, who leads the Flames now with 25 goals, also had a multi-point game as the unrestricted free agent notched a goal and an assist.
The Flames got off to a fast start in the contest as Cammalleri and Kevin Westgarth opened with first period goals. The Lightning came back with a second period goal by Ondrej Palat, before Glencross put the game out of reach for Tampa Bay with his two late third period goals.
With the win, the Flames improve to 32-38-7, and a full ten points ahead of their provincial rivals Edmonton Oilers. The Lightning meanwhile drop to 42-26-9.
The Flames will be in Florida on Friday evening.
