Flames beat Kings 2-1 in a shootout

Only five days after Brent Sutter lost to his brother Darryl convincingly at the Scotiabank Saddledome, he got revenge on Thursday night in southern California.

Olli Jokinen and Michael Cammalleri each scored in a shootout as the Calgary Flames defeated the Los Angeles Kings 2-1. Flames goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff made 31 saves.

It was a strong game for Jarome Iginla, who tied the game at one in the second period on the power play for his 18th goal of the season, to tie Curtis Glencross for the team lead. Jokinen and T.J. Brodie recorded assists. Iginla also won seven of ten faceoffs, impressive because he normally plays right wing instead of center.

In the overtime, the Flames penalty killing performed admirably while defenceman Mark Giordano spent two minutes in the penalty box for hooking Kings defenceman Slava Voynov.

With the win the Flames improve to 22-20-6 and are two points back of the Colorado Avalanche for a playoff spot.
