Flames beat Canucks in a shootout

The Calgary Flames kept pace with the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday night.

At the Scotiabank Saddledome, the Flames defeated the Vancouver Canucks 3-2 on shootout goals by Jarome Iginla and Olli Jokinen.

Michael Cammalleri and Roman Horak also scored for the Flames in regulation.

With the win, the Flames improved to 26-22-8, even with the Colorado Avalanche for ninth place in the Western Conference and  two points back of the Phoenix Coyotes for the eighth and final playoff spot.

The Coyotes defeated the struggling Chicago Blackhawks, now losers of eight straight, by a score of 3-0 on a shutout by Mike Smith.

Before the game, the Flames honoured Miikka Kiprusoff who won his 300th career game Wednesday night against the San Jose Sharks.

The Flames also received the news that checking line forward  Blair Jones would be out six weeks after breaking an ankle in Calgary's 2-1 overtime loss to Phoenix Thursday night.

Calgary next plays Toronto on Tuesday.
