Flagstaff Chief of Police found dead

Flagstaff-- Flagstaff Chief of Police Brent Cooper was found dead Sunday morning near Highway 89 and Purple Sage trail. After 57-year-old Cooper failed to return home Sunday morning from his daily jog, family members alerted authorities of his disappearance.

Cooper reportedly left his residence around 10:00 a.m. with the family dog and was found unresponsive around 3:00 p.m. by a person in the area. Although a first responding Sergeant and medical personnel administered CPR, Cooper was pronounced dead at the scene due to a medical condition.

Cooper served as a member of the Flagstaff Police Department for 33 years, including the Chief of Police position since 2006.

The Flagstaff Police Department has released this statement:

"Chief Brent F. Cooper was loved and respected by all the men and women who served under his command as well as many local, county, state and federal law enforcement officers and administrators. The northern Arizona law enforcement community benefited from Chief Cooper's experience, knowledge and dedication and he will be sorely missed."
