Wickenheiser is the greatest women's hockey player of all time and has won a gold medal for Canada at the last three Olympic Winter Games--at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Turin and the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.

In a recent teleconference attended by myself, Wickenheiser thanked the Canadian Olympic Committee "for the great honour". Wickenheiser also stated she was so proud to represent her hockey team, and Canada's greater team of Canadian Olympians.

It has been speculated that this will be Wickenheiser's last Olympic Winter Games as she plans to pursue a future career in medicine.

The opening ceremonies will take place Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. Mountain time on CBC.

Canada's first game of the women's Olympic hockey tournament will then be Saturday morning as Canada faces Switzerland in Group A action.
