Who among us does not struggle with the early morning decision as to whether to report to work? Our mind’s rolodex of excuses starts to flip, but then common sense kicks in and we get our sorry selves out of bed.
Not so for 21-year-old Florida woman Alexandria Westover, reports ABC affiliate WPBF on Friday. The Boca Raton woman's excuse rolodex landed on a most unusual justification for missing work– she claims she was raped on the side of the road.
Westover told investigators that she had a flat tire and pulled over during the morning commute in Palm Beach Gardens on her way to work. She claims a Good Samaritan pulled over to help her. According to Westover, the man advised her to get something out of her car to help remove the hubcap, and when she reached into her backseat, he shoved her in and raped her.
Her entire story was completely fabricated, she later admitted.
Officials from the Special Investigations Division, Florida Highway Patrol and Palm Beach County State Attorney's Office Special Victims Unit exhausted more than 100 hours of manpower, reviewing surveillance video and investigating her claim.
Her trotting out such an unspeakable excuse is an insult to those individuals affected by an actual sexual assault. Westover was arrested Thursday and charged with false report of a crime and perjury.
