Fla. man charged after allegedly driving 18-wheeler into van's path, killing 1

A Florida man was arrested Friday after he allegedly drove his tractor-trailer into the path of a van, killing the driver and causing a busy Marietta road to be closed down for several hours.

Mr. James David Rast, Jr., 47, has been charged with failure to yield while turning left and second-degree vehicular homicide, according to Marietta police.

He remained in the Cobb County jail Saturday on $250,000.00 bond, according to booking records.

The wreck happened around 7:15 a.m. on Cobb Parkway North at Industrial Park Drive, police spokesman Officer David Baldwin said.
Mr. Rast, of Jay, Fla., was attempting to turn left from Industrial Park Drive onto Cobb Parkway in a white 2013 Freightliner tractor-trailer when he drove into the path of a white 2006 Chevrolet Express Van, Officer Baldwin said.

The van’s driver, Mr. Mahmoud Dabdoub, 49, of Marietta, was heading north on Cobb Parkway.

“Mr. Dabdoub was killed when his van struck the left side of Mr. Rast’s trailor,” Officer Baldwin said.
