Fla. House Republican candidate calls for the hanging of President Obama

While America celebrated the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday, an African-American, Republican candidate for Florida House District 68 of Pinellas County named Joshua Black made a highly controversial comment advocating for the hanging of President Obama for his war crimes.

According to a report by the Tampa Bay Times, Black went on Twitter and posted:

I’m past impeachment. It’s time to arrest and hang him high!

And that is an odd statement, because it almost seems to imply that Obama doesn't really deserve a trial, which is the actual political catalyst for Black's concern about war crimes. Black said "arrest" and "hang," ironically not mentioning a trial.

Another Florida Republican candidate named Chris Latvala responded to Black’s tweet.

Latvala replied:

You aren't seriously calling for the killing of Obama are you? I know you are crazy but good heavens. U R an embarrassment.”

I make it my business when so called GOP candidates become an embarrassment to my beloved party.”

Later, Black defended his tweet arguing that Obama should be held totally responsible for his inappropriate ordering of a drone strike that killed an American citizen overseas.

Black said:

He should be executed for treason. I think the appropriate punishment is death. They killed Benedict Arnold. (Obama) shouldn't be allowed to kill Americans without a trial.

Black continued on by going to Facebook and making another statement.

He said:

I make no apologies for saying that the President is not above the People. If ordinary Americans should be executed for treason, so should he.”

With Republicans and Democrats condemning Black’s comments as reckless and unsuitable, it is unclear what Black’s motive is for making such incendiary remarks. He even bragged about how he is not worried about being questioned by the Secret Service or being labeled as a racist.

Black’s concern about the killing of U.S. citizens abroad represents a legitimate debate with some real questions, but his political, rhetorical methodology of executing the president will definitely overshadow everything else, as it seems to be doing.

And for the record, in regard to Black’s comment about how some entity, apparently an American military court of some sorts, “killed Benedict Arnold,” according to history.com Arnold actually got away/escaped to England after leading British troops against American troops in Virginia and Connecticut.

Arnold reportedly died largely unnoticed in London on Jun. 14, 1801. So maybe Black should move to impeach or hang his history teachers as well.
