A Fla. couple was arrested on Oct. 16 and charged with aggravated child abuse and child neglect in a case so severe that the young victim required surgery due to extensive damage to his intestines and bowels.
Jacksonville.com reported that the alleged abusers, 23-year-old Nicole Marie Koenig and 20-year-old Anderson Lane Smith, both of Manotak Ave. in Jacksonville, were each jailed and held on $75,000 bail.
According to the arrest report, much of which was blacked out, the young male victim was taken to see a doctor last week after suffering coughs, sneezes and vomiting.
The day following the doctor’s visit, “the boy was taken to Wolfson Children’s Hospital from more vomiting and was operated on for internal bleeding.”
During the course of the police investigation, it was discovered that the boy had also been seen in September with bruising.
Investigators met with the city’s child protection team Monday, and a doctor reported that the injuries could have only been caused by severe blunt force trauma, the report said.
The doctor said the extent of the child’s injuries will “significantly hamper” his quality of life.
Because sections of the police report were made unavailable and blacked out, we don’t know the age of the youngster, or the true nature of the relationship between the alleged abusers and the child.
