Just 6 days after 5-year old Ethan was being held hostage in an underground bunk in Midland City, Alabama by 65-year old Jimmy Lee Dykes.

Ethan, was rescued by the FBI hours ago and immediately brought to a Dotham hospital where he will be united with his mother and grandmother.

A police press conference began 9:05 p.m. CT (10:05 p.m. ET).

According to Fox News, the FBI team felt the child was in imminent danger and entered the bunker at 3:12 p.m. CT (4:12 p.m. ET). The boy was rescued and the kidnapper was killed.

The FBI was able to get visual surveillance of the suspect and saw Dykes with a gun. Also, negotiations were falling through and Dykes appeared agitated. The FBI didn’t want to take any chances and decided to raid the bunker.

According to authories, the driver, late Charles Albert Poland Jr., refused and blocked access to protect the children and enable the remaining 21 children to escape from the back emergency exit door.

The gunman killed Poland, then grabbed a kindergartner, Ethan, before barricading himself and the boy inside a nearby bunker he had built.

The boy suffers from Asperger’s syndrome and attention deficit disorder, according to reports.
