Five Ways to Save on Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day weekend symbolizes the Memorial Day holiday, a federal holiday that commemorates the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Formerly recognized as Decoration Day, in recognition of the American Civil War and Confederate soldiers who died in the Civil War, Memorial Day is celebrated on the last Monday in May. This Memorial Day weekend affords many opportunities to obtain terrific holiday deals to aid in the planning of your holiday excursion, as well as stock up on summer amenities.

Here are 5 ways to save money on your Memorial Day Weekend:

1.) Take advantage of current sales to purchase camping and picnic goods for use around the house in bulk. It is a terrific time to take advantage of buy one get one free (or half off) and other deals on non-perishables for use around the home such as: charcoal, starter fluid, matches, and firewood.

2.) Now is a great time to update your patio furniture, decking, BBQ, landscaping and other outdoor amenities around your home: Take advantage of Memorial Day sales to purchase outdoor furniture, gear, lumber, composite material, brick and patio stones, gardening and other supplies to update and beautify your yard.

3.) Get your additional holiday goods now to save time later. Buy camping equipment, picnic baskets, disposable utensils, picnic tablecloths, lanterns, batteries, Frisbees, balls and games, floatation devices, toys and other holiday fun-ware to keep on hand for the remainder of summer.

4.) Stock up on perishable goods for summer use, such as freezable foods, soft drinks, beer and wine for home entertaining all summer long. Save on meat by purchasing meat straight from the local butcher and freezing.

5.) Don’t forget the S’mores! S’mores and other fun summer treats should be purchased on the go. Get your marshmallows, chocolate bars and graham crackers, as well as hot dogs and other traditional camp fire perishables on the go. Don’t forget the roasting sticks!

Have a safe, fun and healthy Memorial Day holiday weekend.
