Have you let the holiday weekend sneak up on you and suddenly you have no plans?
Not to worry, there's still plenty of time to make outdoor plans in the Triangle this Labor Day weekend.
Here are five fun activities sure to satisfy the outdoors person this Labor Day weekend.
Movies on the lawn – The North Carolina Museum of Art has two popular films scheduled at their open-air cinema this Friday and Saturday evening. “Lincoln” starring Oscar Award winning actor Daniel Day Lewis will be shown Friday August 30th and Daniel Craig as James Bond in “Skyfall” is the Saturday night feature. Both nights the movie begins at 8:30. Arrive early and spread out a blanket on the lawn.
Take a walking tour of Raleigh – Tobacco Roads presents the Raleigh Pub Crawl and Haunted Adventure Tour. Learn the history of the historic area of the North Carolina Capital from your tour guide as you make stops along the way to enjoy adult refreshments. It's the ideal combination of outdoors, history and cool beverages.
Not into pubs? Don't worry, Tobacco Roads Tours also offers a family-friendly 1.5 mile walking tour called Raleigh Haunted Footsteps Ghost Tour for kids ages 8 and up.
Take a Segway Tour – Triangle Glides features the latest mode of touring Raleigh. These unique guided, narrated tours are a fun way to learn about Raleigh. A variety of tours are offered including the State Capitol, Historic Oakwood and the Governors Mansion. Tours are for ages 14 and up and reservations are required.
The African American Cultural Festival of Raleigh and Wake County – Head down to Fayetteville Street Saturday and Sunday for this festival scheduled to take place at City Plaza. The African American Cultural Festival of Raleigh and Wake County is the premier family-friendly celebration of African American culture. Art, music, food and community makes this a perennial favorite festival in Raleigh. The event is scheduled for Saturday 11am to 10pm and Sunday 1-9pm.
Go kayaking on the Neuse River – If outdoor adventure is on your agenda but traveling isn't - Paddle Creek in Wake Forest is the perfect solution.
