At your local gym there are many options to choose from. So many in fact; it can be a bit overwhelming to decide. Should you opt for the spin class or ride the exercise bike solo? With so many choices available to you, here are five reasons to select group exercise over an isolated endeavor.

Helps focus your efforts. Whether it’s the companionship or it's just more fun studies verify that people who exercise in a group are more likely to stick with it than those who go it alone. Taking a popular class like Zumba or Boot Camp can be just as effective as taking a class that includes a smaller group or even a shared personal training session when it comes to attendance.

Adds variety to your routine. If you’re the type that gets bored easily and the idea of getting on a treadmill makes you cringe, group fitness classes are perfect for you. Exercise classes are a great way to keep things lively and more variety equals less boredom.

Provides social opportunity. Group exercise is not only effective it can also be a great place to make new friends. You can meet people with similar goals and challenges and that can go a long way in supporting your efforts to lose weight and get healthy.

Accountability. Forming new relationships can help you stay on track with your workouts because not only will you look forward to seeing your new pals, they'll expect to see you at the next class.

The fun factor. Most of us dread that hour on the elliptical and watch every second crawl by but in a group fitness environment the time can fly by because you’re focused on the activity and you’re actually enjoying yourself! Before you know it time's up.

Some people may find the thought of exercising in a group a bit intimidating. But truthfully, the other people in the class are basically there for the same reason you are. So why not give it a try. You’re more likely to have fun and invest your time wisely.
