Five penalty minute specialists to target in fantasy hockey

Penalty minutes (PIM) is a stat category included in many fantasy hockey leagues that is often overlooked. Fantasy managers should keep in mind that it is important to be competitive in every stat category so you should have a few players on your roster that specialize in generating penalty minutes in leagues that reward them.

While there are many bruisers who do nothing but get in fights and play dirty, it is best to use players who will also contribute offensively. Here are five players to target that do just that and are still available in many Yahoo! leagues:

1) Ryane Clowe (San Jose - LW, RW)

  • 2011/2012 stats: 76 games played, 17 goals, 28 assists, 45 points, -5 rating, 97 PIM
  • 79% owned

2) Steve Downie (Colorado - LW, RW)

  • 2011/2012 stats: 75 games played, 14 goals, 27 assists, 41 points, -6 rating, 137 PIM
  • 29% owned

3) Steve Ott (Buffalo - LW, C)

  • 2011/2012 stats: 74 games played, 11 goals, 28 assists, 39 points, +5 rating, 156 PIM
