Now that summer is unofficially over, it's time to put away the shorts and skirts and dig into our closets and pull out the long pants and trousers. If you find that you're closet is lacking in the fashion department and you're ready to hit the stores for a fall refresher here are five pant trends to add to your wardrobe.
Prints and patterns: Forgo khaki pants or you basic black pant and add some prints and patterns. As fall gets closer, the days get shorter and tend to become dreary in nature so instead of blending into the background, stand out! If you prefer to not wear a pant in a bright bold floral print for example, look for a pant that has a tone on tone print or a smaller pattern. Pair with a chic white shirt and a serious heel for an all over flattering effect.
Athletic Chic: The tuxedo pant take an athletic turn with a thicker stripe down the side and a more sporty nature. Not that the tuxedo pant still isn't in style but the versatility is different. With a sporty trouser it can be dressed up or dressed down but still keeps it's fashionable appeal. When in doubt, a classic tuxedo pant in contrasting colors looks amazing with the right accessories.
Cropped pants: Just because it's getting cooler outside doesn't mean you have to go full length on your pants. Watch out though...capri pant and cropped are two totally different things. When you're shopping for cropped pants look for a pant that hits the ankle or no more than three inches above with a slimming effect. Don't be afraid to try a cropped pant with a wide leg and patterned (think palazzo). It will give you the look of wearing a maxi or midi dress. Just balance out the flowing nature with a fitted top.
Track pants: These aren't your run of the mill grey jogging pants either. For fall, track pants take a fashion turn that elevates them to full elegance that can even be appropriate for evening wear. Look for track pants with striping, quilted fabrics, shiny metallics and even leather. Whether you decide to go with a slim fit or baggy or even a peg leg, track pants may very well become your go to pant this season.
Draped (Harem) pants: Don't be afraid of this look. It's not as bad as you think. Conjuring up images of the harem pants of the 90s and MC Hammer, the draped pant has come a long way. For the best fit look for draped pants that is structured and semi loose around the thighs and crotch area with a tapered ankle. This will help the pant create a more flattering silhouette.
When in doubt for Fall 2013, look for pants that are not only slimming but also elongate the leg. If you feel that super slim pants aren't your forte, flared legs, boot legs and straight legs are still hot and trendy.
