Five Montreal-based Companies place on the Top 50 list of Canadian Employers

This past Wednesday, Montreal placed 5 companies on the top 50 employers in Canada for 2009 list, compiled by Hewitt Associates for The Globe and Mail’s Report on Business magazine. Engineering consulting firm CIMA+ placed 5th on the top 50 list for the second consecutive year. Since its inception in 1990 via the merger of several engineering firms, CIMA+ with over 50 years of combined experience, offers a full range of services in areas of urban infrastructure, transportation, building, industry, energy and hydroelectricity, telecommunications, as well as in computer science and geomatics.


Placing 12th on the list was law firm Stikeman Elliott. It is the #1 firm acting for issuers and underwriters combined by value of Canadian equity offerings in 2009 in Bloomberg's year-end league tables. The firm is also the top Canadian firm by value and deal count acting for underwriters in global bond offerings. It also managed to claim the top spot by deal count acting for issuers in Canadian retail structured products.


Pharmaceutical giant Novartis Canada was next in at #29. Created in 1996 through the merger of Swiss-based Ciba-Geigy and Sandoz, it climbed 8 positions since last year. “This is a great achievement which recognizes both the strong and continued engagement of our employees across Canada and our commitment to making a difference to the health of Canadians,” said Julie Bellani, Vice-President, Human Resources. “A vital reason for that strong engagement is our continuous focus on the benefits we bring to Canadian patients through the innovative medicines we develop. Novartis employees take great satisfaction in putting patients at the centre of what we do.”


Other Montreal companies that placed on the list were real estate management company Ivanhoe Cambridge at #31 and telecommunications leader Erickson Canada.
