Ripp'n Lipps team Mark Daniels Jr. and Jamond Andrews ran away with the win at yesterday's WON BASS team event on the Calif. Delta with a lead of nearly 12-lbs over the 31 boat field. Although it was five-fish limit, these Delta locals could have put the tournament to bed with only three of their fish that pushed the scale to 27.
Adding in the remainder of their limit, the Ripp'n Lipps pros locked in the championship with 37.44. "I'm still using that green pumpkin chatterbait," said Daniels in his post weigh-in interview. "This is a huge bait for me, until the end of the spawn. We also used a black/blue, weightless 6-inch Senko and a Reaction Innovations Sweet Beaver. I have to thank Hi's Tackle for hookin' me up with all these baits."
Daniels revealed they flipped their biggest - a 10.40 - on the Sweet Beav in Rhythm and Blues, targeting areas with tule pockets and debris piles. Their 9.19 fell prey to the chatterbait first thing in the morning. "It was our second fish of the day and we had it in the boat within 15-minutes," said Daniels. "We felt pretty good about that as our anchor fish and thought about just trying to get three or four to fill out our limit; but then decided to go out and find more big ones."
Deets from Daniels on their hunt for hawgs included deeper areas in current. "They're just not committed to the flats, yet," he stated.
Daniels and Jamond banked just under $3,000 for the day.
