The story of “Five crashes in 12 hours" is making headlines in the UK.
Friday’s Daily Mail headline read, “Is this Britain's most dangerous corner? Nine vehicles crash on same bend including five cars in just 12 hours”
The Sun’s headline screamed, “Five accidents outside a house in 12 HOURS”
The road that tallied a total of five crashes cars in the same spot in just 12 hours may be the most unsafe corner in the UK.
The spot is in Somerset, about a three hour drive west of London.
The series of car crashes began Sunday night and continued through Monday morning.
.
One of the accidents resulted in a car landing in a garden, while another slammed into a parked car.
A man who lives nearby, Mr Cobbin, 53, told the Mail he witnessed many accidents in that same spot over the past 15 years that he has lived there.
“It was pretty scary to see five crashes outside the house in the space of 12 hours.
Over the last few years we've had four cars in our garden and a minibus on the wall following accidents.
“Once a lorry dropped its entire load of beer into our garden.
“We laugh about it now but my daughter who is 12, is very scared by it and we don't go in the garden any more.
“My wife has emailed our MP David Heath about this issue and been onto the county highways agency to do something about this problem.”
Why so many accidents?
A fire department spokesman said that there were no unusual conditions present that would cause the five accidents in 12 hours.
A spokesman for the Somerset City Council told the Mail that the road was resurfaced three years ago and that the city could find “no defects or unusual road conditions were found.”
But the BBC quotes residents who say that slippery road conditions are to blame for the crashes.
