Five crashes on the same road within a span of only 12 hours have dubbed one winding road in Britain, the country’s most dangerous road, according to a Feb. 28 Daily Mail report. The seemingly endless collisions took place outside a pair of “ancient cottages” between Sunday night and Monday morning.
In the first of the five collisions, on Sunday night, a driver lost control landing in a resident’s garden. In the next, a woman’s car swerved off the road, swiping one resident’s car before smashing into another resident’s front door. The driver had to be cut of the damaged vehicle by firefighters and rushed to the hospital, according to The Sun.
Monday morning brought three more crashes, but no casualties, according to the Daily Mail. Resident Steve Cobbin, whose front door and garden took major hits, said he has witnessed many crashes outside his cottage since he moved there 15 years ago, but noted, “It was pretty scary to see five crashes outside the house in the space of 12 hours.”
He continued talking about the effect the accidents have had on his family and their use and enjoyment of the garden. “Over the last few years we've had four cars in our garden and a minibus on the wall following accidents. Once a lorry dropped its entire load of beer into our garden. We laugh about it now but my daughter who is 12, is very scared by it and we don't go in the garden any more. My wife has emailed our MP David Heath about this issue and been onto the county highways agency to do something about this problem.”
County authorities are investigating the road conditions to address any problems, but so far, seem to think there is no problem. A spokesman the county council stated, “The road was resurfaced about three years ago and, on inspection today, no defects or unusual road conditions were found.”
