Today is National Siblings Day, which I have two siblings that I love very much. Recently I finally got to watch "Blue Jasmine," and that would make a good recent film about siblings. There are many movies out there that look at the relationship between siblings, I've looked at the classic movies that do. These classic movies look at love for a sibling to even rivalries.
So let's start:
"East of Eden" is probably one of the biggest sibling movies because of rivalry. James Dean fans will enjoy this one. Elia Kazan directed this movie that was based off of John Steinbeck's work with the same name.
George Raft and Humphrey Bogart played brothers in this film noir that was directed by Raoul Walsh. Ida Lupino and Ann Sheridan also starred in this movie about two trucker brothers.
"My Sister Eileen" is a comedy that had Rosalind Russell and Janet Blair play sisters. The story is about two sisters who move to to New York, one is an aspiring actress, while the other one is a journalist.
"Orphans of the Storm" is a personal favorite silent movie of mine, the movie starred the Gish sisters, who also played sisters in the movie. The film takes place in the French Revolution era and D.W. Griffith had directed the film.
Henry Hathaway directed "The Sons of Katie Elder," a western film about four brothers who reunite after their mother's death. John Wayne, Dean Martin, Michael Anderson Jr, and Earl Holliman starred as the brothers.
So those are just five movies that come to mind, maybe watch one of these to celebrate with your own siblings. Please feel free to share below in the comments on what are your favorite 'sibling relationship' movies!
