Ladder companies from San Jose, Santa Clara, and Sunnyvale fought the five-alarm structure fire on Sunday, April 13, 2014 on the corner of Park Avenue and Montgomery Street near downtown San Jose, CA. An old KNTV-11 news studio, which had been abandoned since 1994, was destroyed by the blaze. The fire started around 3:00 PM and was mostly contained by 5:00 PM.

Bystanders can be heard asking the police officers blocking the streets if the homeless people who used the abandoned building as shelter were okay. The San Jose Mercury News reported that as many as 30 homeless people call the place home. Witnesses said that they saw the people inside were able to get out when the fire started.

The local ABC News reported that two firefighters were injured fighting the blaze. There were multiple collapses and the firefighters stayed outside of the structure.
