The San Jose Mercury News reported that as many as 30 homeless people call the place home. Witnesses said that they saw the people inside were able to get out when the fire started.

The local ABC News reported that two firefighters were injured fighting the blaze. There were multiple collapses and the firefighters stayed outside of the structure.
