On October 13, 2013, Parade reported that more people are now dependent on their fitness gadgets than ever before. They use these gadgets all day, to monitor their steps, stair climbs and even monitor their sleep patterns. These people become obsessed with tracking their steps and constantly check their steps to see their mileage. So is a dependency on such a gadget like Fitbit, BodyfitMedia or Jawbone Up healthy?
These gadgets are a good tool to use, if you don’t become obsessive with checking them all the time. You see that person at the gym, you know the type. She is doing cardio. Every two minutes, she checks her heart rate monitor to check how many calories she has burned in the past two minutes. The point of these gadgets is to help you relax in knowing how many calories you burn. This cannot be accomplished, if you constantly check the heart rate monitor for calorie burns, especially if you are doing yoga where you need to free your mind.
One negative to these devices is you must wear them often 24 hours a day. At first, having something attached to your arm or a bracelet will not bother you. After a few months, the newness will wear off, and it will start to be bothersome.
Sometimes the best thing to do to become a fitter you, is go back to the basics. This means exercise daily, eat a healthy balanced diet and get enough sleep at night. There is no real need for any fancy gadgets. All you need is hard work, determination and the will power to eat the right foods.
