Fitness fun in Columbus, February 2011

If you think Columbus is a winter wasteland and the only way to get in a workout is to grind it out in the gym, think again. There are lots of opportunites to switch up your workout and try some new indoor (and outdoor) sports during February.

Take a Tribalusions class at Hip Drop Studios, 3316 N. High Street, Suite B, Clintonville, 614-946-2726. Shake your booty and your belly (off)!

Channel the Southern hemisphere at Zumba Columbus, 3590 Riverside Drive, Upper Arlington, 614-832-2586 - another great workout that doesn't leave you feeling like a treadmill zombie! $10 drop-in for classes.

Beat the winter chill with hot yoga at the Wellness Forum, 510 E. Wilson Bridge Rd., Suite F. Worthington, 614-846-9642. I love hot yoga; I feel so loose and completely drained of stress (and water, so drink up afterward). $15 drop-in for classes.

Head for the (Hocking) hills. The trails are beautiful this time of year, and there is a Sweetheart Hike on February 12 from 7-9pm. If you want to stay closer to home, hit the trails at Highbanks, Blendon Woods, Sharon Woods, or any of the Columbus Metro Parks.

Drag your tush up the mountains and ski back down at Mad River Mountain, 1000 Snow Valley Rd., Zanesfield, 1-800-231-SNOW. Don't know how to ski? Learn! Or hit the tubing hill.

Get a flat belly without doing a single crunch - take Pilates at Pilates Studio of Central Ohio, 6585 Dublin Center Dr., Dublin, 614-336-9502. This studio offers a one-month unlimited mat class pass for $50. Feel the stretch and burn and flatten those abs.

Take out your aggression in an acceptable environment at Doug Owens Advanced Fitness and Boxing, 470 Schrock Rd., North Side, 614-844-5658.

Whatever you're doing this winter, keep it healthy and within sight of your personal goals.
