The Facebook images of the pregnant mom doing an intense weight training routine while she was eight months pregnant outraged moms across the country, but now a new mom is under fire for her comments as well.
According to the AJC, 32 year-old California fitness enthusiast, Maria Kang, has been accused of “fat-shaming” women because she posted a Facebook photo of herself with her three sons, ages 8 months, 2 years, and 3 years as she proudly stood between them wearing a tiny two-piece fitness outfit on her petite and very fit frame.
Maria wrote the phrase, “Let’s inspire people everywhere” to describe the photo, but it was the question posted atop the photo “What’s your excuse?” that made the haters come out in numbers.
Kang has blogged openly about her past struggles with bulimia, and she posted the photo to motivate women. To all of the angry commenters she wrote this statement:
"I'm sorry you took an image and resonated with it in such a negative way. I won't go into details that I struggled with my genetics, had an eating disorder, work full time owning two businesses, have no nanny, am not naturally skinny and do not work as a personal trainer. What I WILL say is this. What you interpret is not MY fault. It's yours. The first step in owning your life, your body and your destiny is to OWN the thoughts that come out of your own head. I didn't create them. You created them. So if you want to continue 'hating' this image, get used to hating many other things for the rest of your life."
