Henrik Fisker, founder of Fisker Automotive Inc., defended his 528 million dollar loan from the federal government yesterday, stating through a spokesperson that critics of the loan have, "ignored or marginalized the truth, or sensationalized irrelevant aspects of the loan and our company."
The US Department of Energy approved the loan for Fisker Automotive to continue development and production of their Karma plug-in electric hybrid, a 89,000 dollar four-door sports car, and the car codenamed NINA, a more family-friendly affordable vehicle, which will also be a plug-on hybrid.
Critics of the loan are unhappy with the current plan that calls for the Karma to be built overseas, at Valmet Automotive in Finland. One Fox News headline read, "Americans Fund Car Co That Will Create Jobs ... In Finland." Fisker responded by saying that no domestic manufacturer was willing to assemble the Karma in the low volumes the company needed.
When asked about the possibility of moving the manufacturing process to America, a spokesperson mentioned that NINA would be assembled in an American facility.
