There are a lot of great places to fish in and around Louisville, Kentucky. There is also a wide variety of species to catch in Kentucky waters. The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wild Life Resources (KDFWR) has even went as far as to stock some of the more popular lakes with species that are in high demand for anglers. For example, one popular fish the KDFWR stocks is rainbow trout.
Here are some details you need to know about trout fishing in Kentucky, and where you can go near Louisville to do a little trout fishing.
Fishing for trout in Louisville
In order to fish in Kentucky you have to purchase a state fishing license, which is $20.00 for residents and $50.00 for non-residents; however, a basic license doesn't allow you to keep any trout that you catch. In order to keep your catch you have to purchase a trout stamp, and it will cost you an additional $10.00 a year. With this stamp you can keep up to eight rainbow trout from more of Kentucky's waters.
It's worth noting that if the lake you are fishing is part of the “Fishing in Neighborhoods” (FINS) program, you can only keep five trout a day.
