The upcoming weekend of August 2-3, 2014 has two interesting 5K events and a 10 miler on Saturday offering some options for runners.

Sea Girt 5K start

The Neptune City 5K will be held starting at 8 a.m. with a hilly course and is held in conjunction with Neptune City Day festivities. Registration and check in for the race is at the Neptune City First Aid Squad located at 97 West Sylvania Avenue in Neptune City which is right off of Route 35. The start is by the First Aid Squad and the route takes runners through the tree lined streets which includes several hills. The finish is along the Shark River at Memorial Park. After the race there are awards, lots of refreshments and the Neptune City Day Fair.

In Sea Girt the 5K race starts at 8:30 a.m. near the old train station at the entrance to the borough off of Route 71. The course is flat and fast and takes runners on a loop back to the start area. There are kid’s races after the 5K and plenty of awards to overall and age group winners.

Down south in Sea Isle City later on Saturday at a 5:45 p.m. start is the 44th Annual Captain Bill Gallagher 10 Mile Island Run. It is a flat course which starts at the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol Headquarters, located at 44th Street and the Boardwalk. It includes a few miles on the boardwalk running to the 29th Street ramp, onto the beach for several miles and then back to the finish back in front of the Beach Patrol Headquarters. The race offers prize money to top finishers, age group awards and team awards. It always draws a large field

Then on Saturday August 9 it is the big one part of the Jersey Shore Grand Prix – The Asbury Park 5K.
