Production has started on the backdoor pilot for "The Originals" this week. The pilot for this series will air as a part of "The Vampire Diaries" on April 25. Daniel Gillies has returned, and he will be featured on both "The Vampire Diaries" and "The Originals" if the spin-off plans move forward. Joseph Morgan said the following about the spin-off series, according to E! Online:
"[It will be] a little more adult, a little more kind of gothic because these are old time Vampires here. It’s just so tremendously exciting for me, I’m so eager to get started on it. I really can’t wait, and I really hope people like it. I’m going to put my whole heart and soul into it."
Joseph Morgan joined "The Vampire Diaries" during season two, and he has played a major part in the action on the series since his arrival. His character was not meant to stick around, but Klaus and his family became fan favorites early on. This caused Julie Plec to dive more into the family's store. "The Originals" will reveal even more of their history.
Fans are buzzing about this series on social media. One fan said the following on Twitter recently:
@MissClaireHolt can't wait for #theoriginals to start
