Nearly a year ago the legendary directing partners and brothers, Joel and Ethan Coen (“The Big Lebowski,” “No Country for Old Men,” “Burn after Reading,” “True Grit”) began production on their latest project, entitled, “Inside Llewyn Davis.” Loosely based on folk singer Dave Van Ronk’s memoir, The Mayor of MacDougal Street, the 1960s-era drama depicts the complex and compelling dynamics of the burgeoning folk music scene that was slowly captivating New York City through the struggles and triumphs of a young singer, Llewyn Davis. Apparently the film finished production a while ago, but there’s been very little news on the film – and it still doesn’t have a release date. Fortunately, the Coen Brothers gave their army of fans a glimpse at what lies ahead in the film’s first trailer released on their official site today, January 24, 2013.
Due to the fact that it is a Coen Bros movie, there’s been a lot of excitement surrounding the project for an extremely long time now – it seemed to start before casting began. Unsurprisingly, the Coen Brothers attracted an extremely talented cast including their frequent collaborator John Goodman, Carey Mulligan (“Pride and Prejudice,” “An Education”), Garrett Hedlund (Tron Legacy), Girls' stars Alex Karpovsky and Adam Driver, as well as the talented Justin Timberlake, and Oscar Isaac (“The Bourne Legacy”).
Despite the hype surrounding the film, the directors’ massive fan base, and the stellar cast list, the producers have been relatively quiet thus far, and the trailer is by far the biggest news on the film to date.
The trailer, which accompanies this article, introduces viewers to Isaac, a bearded and worn out aspiring folk singer who is stumbling through the labyrinth of New York in an attempt to become a successful musician. However, without spoiling anything, the end of the trailer cuts off just a second too early – leaving viewers begging to see what will happen to Llewyn next.
