"The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" was confirmed for the PS4, Xbox 720 and PC with a Game Informer cover reveal on Tuesday. Now the first screenshots of the open-world role-playing game have come out to show some of what we can expect with next-gen game engines and consoles.
The screenshots for "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" show off numerous graphical and environmental improvements from "The Witcher 2" but even more are planned for the final version of the game according to CD Projekt Red. These screenshots are what is currently running from on internal PC development hardware. However, "Right now you see the game in the old renderer, but it's going to be taken to a truly next level," says gameplay producer Marek ZSiemak. CD Projekt Red told Game Informer that the skin shaders and the dynamic lighting model will be "markedly more advanced in the final version."
Even then, we still see a tavern that looks far livelier than anything produced in-game during the current generation including "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim". There's also round vegetation that actually looks like vegetation and not a simple texture, blood being coming out in globulets during a sword fight and lighting that appears to be generated dynamically from different sources.
There are screenshots featuring Garalt riding a horse and possibly entering into combat but CD Projekt Red has not finalized whether that will appear in the final game.
"The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" will arrive for the Playstation 4, next Xbox (aka Xbox 720) and the PC sometime in 2014.
