According to Inquirer Lifestyle on Oct. 5, the first store in the Philippines to stock official Marvel merchandise has opened its doors in Manila and has been named Kapow! Universe. The store officially made it's debut on Sept. 29 at Glorietta 5 in Makati and the events that had followed was trivia and a slew of cosplayers portraying everyone's favorite Marvel characters such as Psylocke, Cable, Loki, Scarlet Witch, Wolverine, Star-Lord, Spider-Man, Iron Man, and a host of others.
It is also noted that along with a large fan base in the Philippines, there are also known Filipino artists that have been known to draw for Marvel Comics. Marvel artists such as Leinil Yu and Gerry Alanguilan currently partake in the "Avengers" series.
It also appears that the store owners jumped through many hoops to finally get an approval from Disney to get the ball rolling on the store and was finally given the go-ahead in June.
The inside of the store was designed to look like the interior of the S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier, minus Lola of course and the dressing room in which some customers would be able to try on the merchandise would be able to enter a mock gamma radiation chamber to give a Hulk-themed feel of being pelted with gamma rays.
Though, customers don't come out of the dressing room looking like a green monstrosity, but they do get to experience the feel of being immersed in the Marvel Universe.
The store owners mentioned it was quite the coincidence that the "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." pilot aired just before their store opened.
"We came up with a concept for the store, and they were just shooting the pilot for the series. We didn’t know if it would get the green light or not".
