Have you ever sat down and wondered what happened to your day? Have you ever had every intention of completing a task only to finish your day without even beginning? If you have, you are not alone. In reality many people spend days, weeks, months, even years losing time and missing out on opportunities that can propel them into success. Learning to effectively manage your time can help open doors and create opportunities in your life you have been missing. There are many steps that can be taken to improve time management but really only one way to get the process started. That way is to step back to the basics.
Create a time management activity log can be created from the elements outlined below. Use this log for a full week, tracking everything you do in the day. As you begin this process you will start to notice things that are eating up your time and will eliminate these actions while in the process of recording them. The challenge will be to analyze this log daily and notice trends that need to be changed and activities that are wasting your time that can be removed from your daily routine.
One client I began working with discovered that she took a lot of smoke breaks throughout the day. After analyzing her ineffective use of time she decided she needed to eliminate this habit from her life. She used hypnotherapy as a treatment option and within four sessions she was no longer a smoker and had gotten a minimum of an hour and 15 minutes back in her day. This opened her up to working on other projects that helped her better her life. Now she uses the time activity logs whenever she needs to find more time in her day. This simple process gave her an amazing gift.
Activity Log Elements: Simply input these items into a spreadsheet to be used daily. The date, time/duration, and activity field should be self- explanatory. The need/want and value box are made to open your mind to how important the activity is to you. Value should be a rating of 1-10 (one being important and ten not very important). The emotion field is designed to look deeper into any emotional needs that drive you to do this activity. It will be information you use later with a coach or hypnotherapist to determine treatment option for eliminating it from your day if need be.
