First pic of PS4 controller surface (Photos)

IGN got the scoop on the first pic of the the PS4 controller. Their source was quick to stress that the controller is a "prototype" but is "real".

The look of the controller also matches previous descriptions of the controller. In place of the Select and Start buttons is a black screen. At the top of the controller is a LED screen that is lit. What this screen will exactly do is not yet revealed.

The design of the controller stays true to the original configuration from the halcyon days of the original PlayStation with slight differences. The analog controllers appear to have indented grooves so that the thumbs can rest more comfortably within them.

It also appears that the L1 and R1 buttons appears to be missing but the L2 and R2 buttons are still in place. Other items that are available on this controller is a small button just above the directional pad, a small speaker-like configuration above the PS button, and finally a small protrusion right below the PS button.

As IGN's source said this is only a "prototype" of the PS4 controller. That being said Sony has stuck with the format of the PlayStation because, truthfully, it is one of the best game pads ever created. Perhaps Sony will have more information when it has its PlayStation event February 20.
