After months of waiting intently, Lionsgate has released the first photos from the second installment of "The Hunger Games" on Jan. 14, heightening the excitement for the upcoming flick.
"Catching Fire," the middle book of the "Hunger Games" trilogy based on on the books by Suzanne Collins, again places Golden Globe winner Jennifer Lawrence front and center, reprising her role as Katniss Everdeen.
The story picks up after Katniss' and Peeta's victory at the 74th Hunger Games, the barbaric televised entertainment that pit children against each other in a fight to the death. As a result of her unlikely and nontraditional victory, she faces the ire of the Capitol's leader, President Snow (Donald Sutherland).
Additionally, Katniss finds herself torn between the two guys in her life: Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) and Gale (Liam Hemsworth), both of whom need her in their own way. And she must decide if she will act as a symbol of rebellion, or save people she loves--or if it is possible to do both.
The released photo that has so far caught most fans' attention is that of Sam Claflin, in the role of District 4 victor Finnick Odair, nuzzling up to Lawrence, while she stares strictly ahead of herself.
Another photo depicts Hemsworth and Lawrence interacting (perhaps in the Hob) with director Francis Lawrence. The final photo shows Katniss and Peeta standing uncomfortably, looking dressed up (most likely on the Victory Tour).
Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz and Woody Harrelson will all reprise their roles from "The Hunger Games," but will also be joined by Phillip Seymour Hoffman as Plutarch Heavensbee, as well as Jeffrey Wright, Amanda Plummer, Jena Malone and Claflin as various victors.
"The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" will be released on Nov. 22, 2013.
