Like The Avengers, 2012 will be a pivotal year for Spider-Man, who celebrates his 50th anniversary in August. On April 1, he returns to television alongside "Earth's Mightiest Heroes" as The Ultimate Spider-Man on Disney XD.
And on the day before Independence Day, he will be The Amazing Spider-Man with The Social Network's Andrew Garfield succeeding Tobey Maguire.
However, we may not be expecting the same friendly neighborhood web-crawler we've come to known and loved for the past half-century, as Peter Parker begins searching the truth about his past that will lead to him becoming Spider-Man, who will be hunted as both an outlaw and masked vigilante by NYPD police chief George Stacy (Denis Leary), the father of Parker's love interest Gwen (Emma Stone).
Rhys Ifans co-stars as Dr. Curt Connors, the scientist who tragically becomes the Lizard -- and possibly the one person who holds the key to Peter's past.
