Trainer extraordinare Dan Barrett and Legacy Fit, a premier sports training facility in Miami, have teamed up to open this week the best obstacle course gym ever built. They have converted a 24,000 square foot open space in the Wynwood district into the only gym of its kind with over 30 different obstacles like the ones found at any of the premiere obstacle course races of the world.
Dan Barrett, the mastermind behind eleven obstacle course races in Florida like the Tarzan’s Cup and the Jungle Cup, has built a permanent obstacle course called the Jungle Jym that will serve as training ground for athletes looking to get ready for an obstacle course race or to anyone looking for a tough physical challenge.
Obstacle course races have gained massive popularity all over the world and, for the most part, participants have no proper way to get ready for the types of obstacles they would face during the race, unless they head into the wilderness to train. With the Jungle Jym, Dan and the folks at Legacy Fit want to provide an opportunity for athletes of any level to get ready before these grueling races and to offer people a place to train in a more challenging and fun way.
A strong desire for self improvement and loads of adrenaline are necessary to be able to tackle obstacles like the log climbs, super hero climbs and the Tarzan tower among many others at the Jungle Jym. Be advised these are not small replicas of the obstacles found in the races, these are the real deal. The Jungle Jym includes pretty much everything an obstacle race would have except a mud pit.
Fortunately fitness training these days no longer involves leotards and leg warmers. Exercise seems to be reverting to a more primeval form where there is no need for fancy weight machines or high-tech gadgets to get the heart pumping. Instead fitness is now sought outdoors and under challenging conditions. During a test run earlier this week a whole range of athletes from novices to obstacle race champions like Cyrus Writer showed up to tackle the fun course and give their nod of approval.
