First Marvel news for the first week of 2013

The Holiday season and 2012 has drawn to a close, and the first week of 2013 has started off with some exciting news coming out Marvel.

Last week, 2012 ended with the death of Peter Parker and Dr. Octopus stepping in to become the new “Superior Spider-Man”. Many fans were not pleased with Marvel’s move to kill off Peter Parker, but no one ever stays dead in comics, unless it is the Walking Dead. Alternative to last week’s controversial news, this week Marvel unveiled Beast’s return to his ape-like appearance in All-New X-Men #6. Throughout the last decade Beast’s has donned a cat-like appearance that made him more animalistic. Beast’s return to his classic appearance further humanizes the heroic mutant.

In casting news Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Michael Rosenbaum have joined to increasing short-list of actors to play the lead role, Peter Quill, aka Star Lord, in Marvel’s upcoming space epic Guardians of the Galaxy. The two actors have previously appeared in DC properties, Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Dark Knight Rises, and Rosenbaum most famously known for playing the Lex Luthor in Smallville, and voicing the Flash in the Justice League animated series. In other casting related news, it has been confirmed that Haley Atwell will not reprise her role as Peggy Carter in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. No word has been confirmed on who will play the new female lead in the Captain America sequel. Fortunately, Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), and Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes) will all reprise their roles in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
