We've already seen Cara (Peyton List) and John's (Luke Mitchell) breakout flashback episodes on The CW's The Tomorrow People, and both were quite tragic. So soon the show will deliver Russell's (Aaron Yoo), but just because he is a more comedic character in present day doesn't mean that some of that humor isn't simply to deflect from the angst or anguish he feels from his past. His breakout episode is not set up to be a palate cleanser by any means-- especially because the trip down memory lane starts when he learns his father has passed away.
"There’s sort of a hint of sadness to each of them; they’re all broken people…Russell’s alluded to problems with the law. You know if John’s better at teleporting, and Cara’s better with telepathy, he’s more about telekinesis, so you see that in play a little bit. And you get his backstory with his family— it starts there, so you’ll meet his family as well and his relationship with them and how his powers came to express themselves," series executive producer Greg Berlanti said to LA TV Insider Examiner in Los Angeles recently.
On "Sorry For Your Loss," Stephen (Robbie Amell) and Russell head out for a night of fun but run into a potential new break-out on the way. They report back to John and Cara about the new person, but they want to keep a low profile from Ultra this time. Russell is torn about whether or not he should go home after getting the news about his father, which prompts the memories of his relationship with them back in the day. John volunteers to accompany Russell to help keep him out of trouble. Meanwhile, Jedikiah (Mark Pellegrino) has a shocking secret that could destroy his career.
The Tomorrow People airs on The CW on Wednesday nights at 9 p.m. "Sorry For Your Loss" airs on November 13 2013.
