The last sneaker in the Nike Kobe "Prelude Pack" was shown off for the first time on Wednesday in the form of the Nike Kobe 8 "Prelude". One of the main attractions in the Museum of Contemporary Art of Los Angeles, the Nike Kobe 8 has continued to roll along long after other signature shoes in Nike's portfolio has already released their latest models.
Reflection is a key theme of the Nike Kobe 8 "Prelude" as the upper is meant to replicate the contemporary art movement of today through the lens of a proud champion like Kobe Bryant. The Nike Kobe 8 has quietly become one of the most beloved basketball shoes in recent memory, thanks in large part to the Engineered Mesh upper that has allowed Nike to get very experimental with their designs. From the coral snake to the pit viper, there is no doubt that Nike Kobe 8 will be remembered as on the best in Kobe's signature line long after he has retired from the game of basketball.
Kobe Bryant experienced his toughest season during the 2012-13 campaign, which started out with championship aspirations. After acquiring Dwight Howard and Steve Nash via trades, there was talk of a new Lakers dynasty; unfortunately, that would not turn out to be the case as Howard quickly discovered he was not made for the Los Angeles spotlight while Nash bravely battled various injuries. Bryant would suffer the worst fate of them all, tearing his Achilles just as the team was starting to get into a decent groove. The neon colors of the sneaker are meant to represent the same bright lights that Howard could not handle while the chrome on the heel clip encapsulates the cold-blood nature of Kobe's Black Mamba persona.
The Nike Kobe 8 "Prelude" will launch on Jan. 25, the final sneaker in the "Prelude Pack" and more than likely the final Nike Kobe 8 that will drop. More than any other modern sneaker, the Nike Kobe 8 has experienced a very long shelf life, but eventually it will have to make way for the Nike Kobe 9 Elite "Masterpiece" that will drop Feb. 8.
