Kobe Bryant revealed that the Nike Kobe 3 "Prelude" is his favorite from the upcoming "Prelude Pack" on Wednesday during the unveiling of the Nike Kobe 9 in Los Angeles. Citing the failed season, Bryant talked about how it was a defining moment in his career and that it helped him turn a corner and led him to his first post-Shaq championship the following season.
The Nike Kobe 3 "Prelude" takes the frustration that Bryant endured in failing to win a championship against the hated Boston Celtics and channeled it into a painting that was then used as the base for the shoe's upper. The word "Misery" can be found on the shoe's sockliner, highlighting Bryant's high expectations for himself - he had just won his first MVP that same season - and his team. Bryant's colorful rage can be found just right below the TPU mesh and on the swoosh on the back of the sneaker. Out of all of the sneakers in the "Prelude Pack", this is by far the darkest and digs deep into the psyche of Bryant.
No pricing has been set for the Nike Kobe 3 "Prelude", but it will launch on Dec. 14 as part of a months-long build-up with every Kobe Bryant signature shoe getting a retro drop that leads into the release of the Nike Kobe 9 Elite "Masterpiece" on Feb. 8.
