When Ashley Tisdale pops up in the Raising Hope Valentine's Day episode on FOX next week, she isn't just the girl-next-door. She is more like the hired help, in that Virginia (Martha Plimpton) and Burt (Garret Dillahunt) bring her into their wacky little family in a strange arrangement that has her pretending to be their son's girlfriend. But Jimmy (Lucas Neff) doesn't need a beard, so what gives!?
"Jimmy’s parents are terrible to him-- frequently!" Series star Neff reminded LA TV Insider Examiner when we caught up with him in Los Angeles.
"And they have really unorthodox views on how to go about wooing, and so I suppose they think it would be a great way to see if Sabrina would be jealous. It’s sort of a sneaky, devious, warm-- there’s less chivalry in it than I’d like. Jimmy goes along with it, but he’s sort of forced by circumstance to go along with it. I don’t think he can smooth talk himself out of that yet. He’s very much a Jimmy, not a James."
Not yet anyway. But perhaps Jimmy's game is smoothly improving with time? Or even with practice, like with Tisdale? Neff did promise that the show is "closer to something" between Jimmy and Sabrina so clearly something must be working.
"There’s still Wyatt in episodes to come, but there’s big things that are in the making," Neff teased. "I always feel like I have such a crappy sell for it, but believe me, earth-shattering things are coming for the Chance family!"
We can't wait!
Raising Hope airs on FOX on Tuesday nights at 9:30pm. "Jimmy's Fake Girlfriend" airs on February 14th 2012.
