Sacramento's Big Idea Theatre Company continued its dramatically different 2014 "Unbound" theater season Friday with the opening of "Inventing van Gogh," a masterpiece of a time-shifting mystery centered around the Dutch artist's last (and lost) self-portrait.
Penned by celebrated playwright Steven Dietz, the Big Idea production – directed by Benjamin Ismail – features Brennan Villados as a conflicted painter pulled into the world of art forgery, and Brian Watson as the tragic post-Impressionist.
Kristine David, Kevin Toole and Ed Gyles Jr. complete the cast, with the trio playing dual roles in set in the present and the past.
Tickets for "Inventing van Gogh" cost $10 to $20, and are available online (bigideatheatre.tix.com) and at the door (1616 Del Paso Blvd., Sacramento). For more information, see bigideatheatre.com, or call (916) 960-3036.
