The trailer, released Wednesday, Aug. 6th, focuses on the life of the brilliant physicist as a university student and courtship between his then wife Jane played by Felicity Jones (Like, Crazy).
Hawking’s is first introduced as a young student eager to know more about time and space, and is soon smitten by Jane. They begin their courtship, however, Hawking’s deteriorating health begins to become a factor in his life and his relationship, and is expected to live for two years.
The clip then focuses on the hardships of living with his disease all the while making a breakthrough in science.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jones stated that, “it was an absolute labor of love. … We play both of them from their teens, in Jane’s case, through to 45. So it’s all the different stages and emotional upheavals of that relationship for that period. It’s about how they coped with that and both their own ambitions. They’re both extraordinary people and it’s a really phenomenal story.”
Directed by Marsh (Man on Wire), the film is based on Jane Hawking’s novel, is written and produced by Anthony McCarten, as well as Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, and Lisa Bruce.
Focus Features is the distributor.
The film also stars Emily Watson, David Thewlis, Charlie Cox, and Harry Lloyd.
The Theory Of Everything will premiere Sept. 7 at the Toronto Film Festival (TIFF), and will open in American theaters on Nov. 7.
