The folks at ABC have given us a look at “Once Upon a Time’s” new character, Rapunzel. Hypable shared the latest on Alexandra Metz, the actress playing the long-tressed fairy tale character on Feb. 11.
We have known for some time that Metz would be playing Rapunzel. Now finally we get to see her in costume with a dapper Prince Charming. Both are seen in Rapunzel’s tower.
Showrunners Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis have promised that “Once’s” version of Rapunzel will not follow the recent Disney version, “Tangled.” That’s not to say there won’t be some typical Kitsis/Horowitz twists thrown in for good measure. As a matter of fact, Kitsis told TV Guide, “We went a little darker and freakier. A little more horror story in the vein of [the 2004 movie] The Grudge.”
Spoilers have also made us aware that in addition to Charming visiting Rapunzel in the tower, a second visitor will pay a call. This one will be a mysterious hooded figure. There’s no telling who that might be.
With the arrival of the Wicked Witch, all bets are off. She will no doubt have ties to our Fairy Tale friends but to who is unclear. It could be Rapunzel.
Other new characters arriving over the course of the second half of season 3 on “Once Upon a Time” include a young Prince Leopold as played by Eric Lange, young Cora, a role being reprised by Rose McGowan and Rebecca Mader as the Wicked Witch. We also know Lumiere is coming soon but no word on the actor playing the French candelabra.
“Once Upon a Time” season 3, returns Sunday, March 9 with episode 12 “New York City Serenade” at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
