First Lady Michelle Obama's day in Richmond, Virginia

First Lady Michelle Obama had a full day in Richmond, Virginia on Wednesday, January 11, 2012.

Why was Mrs. Obama in Richmond?
  1. To unveil a new plan to help veterans return home
  2. To help President Obama's re-election

While in Richmond, the First Lady attended a Democratic National Committee (DNC) lunch with nearly 300 supporters at the Richmond Marriott where tickets for the event ranged from $500 to $10,000. The money went to the Obama Victory Fund.

After the luncheon, the First Lady went to Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) where she announced a major commitment to veterans by the country's top medical colleges.

Emphasis was on the care of American service men and women suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury.

The VCU School of Medicine, joining about 100 members of the American Association of Medical Colleges, signed a pledge to support  health care research and care for veterans.  This will help develop new treatments for post traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury.
