On Oct. 14, 2013, United Film & Television Artists (UFTA) held its first film rehearsal at the Alliance for the Arts in Fort Myers, Fla. UFTA's meeting and film rehearsal took place from 6:30 - 9 p.m.
The film "Casting," is a short film that is part documentary and part comedy. UFTA is calling it a Docuomedy!
UFTA President Al Quinn opened the meeting at 7 p.m., held the normal meeting agenda, had refreshments, and allowed time for the new actors in attendance to study their lines. By 7:30 there was a more relaxed and untimed rehearsal.
The film's director of photography (DP), Ernesto Lasso de la Vega, showed up at 8 p.m. in time to meet the actors, discuss wardrobe, their parts, answer questions and begin shooting as each read his or her lines.
Lasso de la Vega also brought one of the cameras he will use on set and shot the actors as they proceeded with their second rehearsal at 8:30 p.m. That one was timed.
Almost all of the cast was in attendance. Some of them had to read two parts.
According to the DP, the next rehearsal and/or shooting will be in two to three weeks. It will be held on a Saturday, and probably be considered a dress rehearsal as well.
UFTA has been holding readings for this film since throughout the summer, and now the film's first rehearsal finally happened!
"We here at UFTA look forward to working more on this film project. The film is currently in its pre-production stage, but we are getting very close to shooting it. It will take multiple weekends to complete, but it will be worth it. Our goal is to have a film we can show our members, new members and guests to help them learn more about the entertainment industry. It would be nice to enter this film in film festivals, and to make more films as well!"
